My client is one of the North East of England’s longest standing independent IT companies delivering multi-million pound solutions to education and local government. Based in Birtley, County Durham, UK, they provide cost effective and reliable IT Network solutions for wired and wireless networks to government, education and industry and have many years’ experience in designing, installing and maintaining “end-to-end” solutions. As part of our services we design, install, commission, and support leading edge solutions for audio visual, wireless, data and voice applications.
About the role
We are looking for a data cabling engineer with previous experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing a range of hardware and cabling products.
The role includes a degree of physical activity and working at height.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A highly motivated and conscientious individual, your main areas of responsibility will include:
- Onsite installation of data cabling projects
- Providing excellent customer service and support
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Working collaboratively with other departments and other contractors on site
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
Essential
- Strong experience (5+ years) at installation, termination and testing of all types of copper cables (cat5/5e/6/6A/coax/telephony)
- Strong experience at installation, termination and testing of Single & Multi-mode Fibre Optic cabling
- Strong experience with the installation of containment solutions
- Experienced in the setting up, use and interpretation of the results from a Fluke test equipment or similar test equipment
- The ability to demonstrate good troubleshooting skills
- Highly motivated and can work to strict timescales – setting & achieving targets
- An excellent understanding of health and safety practices
- A full UK driving licence
- IPAF/PASMA certified
- Good verbal and written skills
- Customer focussed
- Able to work well as part of a team and individually
- Ability to follow survey documentation
- Experienced at the safe and correct use of ladders and other access equipment
- Experienced at the correct and safe use of power tools
- Demonstrates sound decision making skills – displays a willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgement and include appropriate people in the decision making process when necessary
- Quality management – monitors and takes pride in the quality of their own work as was as looking for ways to improve and promote quality
Desirable
- CSCS/ECS Trade relevant card
- SC or DV clearance
- Basic knowledge of networking equipment including switches, routers and WiFi Access Point
Qualifications:
Although no formal qualifications are essential for this role, the successful candidate should have relevant work-related experience, attain a good all-around standard of education, and have a good knowledge of current IT technologies.
Location and Working Arrangements:
The position is based from Birtley; however the installations will be at various sites across mainly the North East of England. You may be required to work outside of the areas, but this varies based on current projects. When working outside of the area, hotels and expenses are provided.
The working hours are normally Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30 with a half hour for lunch, although extended hours may be required to fit customer requirements. Often evening shifts are required in order to facilitate installations into schools outside of student attendance hours. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to accommodate changes to their working hours and be available to work weekends and evenings as required.
